We are pleased to share an important development in our journey at Quantum Optima.
This week, we held a highly productive technical discussion with D-Wave Quantum Systems, represented by Andrew B. and Axel D., focusing on how quantum annealing and hybrid quantum-classical optimisation could support our work in energy and multi-asset decision systems.
The conversation quickly moved beyond introductions and into real substance:
- We presented our multi-BESS optimisation use case, where even a 3–4% improvement in scheduling and dispatch yields significant additional annual revenue for operators.
- D-Wave’s team showed strong interest in the structure of our QUBO formulation, the combinatorial nature of energy scheduling, and the potential fit with their hybrid solvers.
- They suggested a second, deeper session dedicated specifically to our use case so we can jointly shape the most appropriate modelling and solution strategy.
One of the most encouraging points:
D-Wave validated that our optimisation framework is relevant not only for energy storage, but for any domain requiring complex resource allocation — from mobility logistics to multi-vessel routing, radar scheduling, and broader dual-use environments.
This aligns perfectly with our expanded Quantum Optima vision: robust optimisation engines for Energy, Logistics, Defense, and Industry 4.0 systems.
Next Steps
We will prepare a structured use-case presentation and QUBO deep dive for the D-Wave technical team, aiming to explore:
- Hybrid solver performance on our scheduling instances
- Mapping strategies and scaling behaviour
- Potential joint research or pilot collaboration
This marks a strong step forward in building Quantum Optima as one of the leading European teams working hands-on with quantum optimisation systems.
More updates soon.
