Looking back at Berlin Defense Tech Week 2026 and Quantum Optima’s presentation of Optima Aegis™
In July, Quantum Optima joined the European defence innovation community in Berlin for the Counter-UAS Forum, part of Berlin Defense Tech Week 2026.
The Forum brought together defence technology companies, operators, investors, policymakers and industry representatives to discuss one of the most rapidly evolving challenges in modern defence: protecting forces, infrastructure and civilian environments against increasingly capable unmanned aerial systems.
For Quantum Optima, the event was an opportunity to present Optima Aegis™, our decision-assurance platform for complex air-defence and Counter-UAS environments.
Decision-making under pressure
Counter-UAS is not only a sensing or effector problem. As the number, speed and diversity of threats increase, operators must continuously decide which threats require action, which assets should respond, how scarce defensive resources should be allocated and when the tactical picture requires re-optimisation.
Optima Aegis is being developed around precisely this problem.
The platform combines constrained optimisation, decision intelligence and explainable human-in-the-loop workflows to support operators facing multiple simultaneous threats and limited defensive resources.
Rather than replacing the operator, Aegis is designed to provide an additional decision layer: generating and continuously updating recommended assignments while maintaining operator authority, explainability and an auditable record of the decision process.
From optimisation research to operational decision systems
Our work on Aegis is part of Quantum Optima’s broader technology direction: decision-making under conditions of extreme uncertainty.
The same underlying challenge appears across energy systems, defence and other complex operational environments: many possible actions, limited resources, rapidly changing conditions and decisions that need to be made before exhaustive analysis is possible.
Our approach combines classical optimisation today with an evolving quantum optimisation research programme, allowing us to investigate where hybrid and quantum methods may ultimately provide an advantage as problem complexity increases.
Presenting this work in Berlin — and discussing it with founders, defence professionals, investors and technology teams working on different layers of the Counter-UAS stack — was an important part of that journey.
Europe’s Counter-UAS challenge will not be solved by a single technology. Sensors, effectors, command systems, electronic warfare and autonomous systems increasingly need to operate as an integrated capability.
Quantum Optima aims to contribute to that stack at the decision layer.
